DABRF-X4 - Comming soon

September 2024

The DABRF-X4 device was developed as core component to deliver high-quality digital radio channels into busses and trains. It is marketed as paxDAB+ device by PaxLife Innovations GmbH.

The first DABRF-X4 units have been delivered to PaxLife and will be presented as paxDAB+ devices at InnoTrans 2024.

EWS - Emergency Warning System

September 2024

The new standard TS 104 089 has been published by ETSI since the beginning of September 2024. This standard describes the signaling in the FIC for the transmission of EWS Alerts.

The rbb and other German broadcasters also broadcast EWS alerts in Germany on the nationwide warning day (2024-09-12). The extended DAB-XPlorer was successfully used to record and check the signaling.

The DAB-XPlorer software has been expanded to include the new standard TS 104 089. An update is now available for our customers with a maintenance and support contract.

DABRF
Description

The DABRF-X4 device was developed as core component to deliver high-quality digital radio channels into busses and trains. It is marketed as paxDAB+ device by PaxLife Innovations GmbH.

With a compact receiver installed in the vehicle, paxDAB+ makes high-quality digital radio accessible to every passenger. Passengers can easily tune into up to 32 live radio channels (depending on DAB+ coverage) on their personal devices via the operator’s app — whether the app currently handles only ticket sales or more — and enjoy crystal-clear sound from a wide range of live programs throughout their journey.

The radio streams are transmitted to passengers' devices via the vehicle's WiFi access point, either using an existing WiFi network or through the receiver’s built-in DAB+ access point if no prior setup is available.

The paxDAB+ user interface, displaying a variety of DAB+ channels, is fully integrated with the operator’s application.

Additionally, paxDAB+ offers an optional feature for uninterrupted live radio streaming by seamlessly switching between 4G and DAB+ streams, either from its own network or the vehicle’s.

DABRF
Description

The DABRF device was developed as core component of the patented tunnel break-in system, MAGIC TBR from AVT Audio Video Technologies GmbH, that, in the event of a disaster, allows to supply a street tunnel with live warning messages via digital radio. Those systems require the DAB signal containing the warning message transmitted within the tunnel to mimic the ensemble outside the tunnel, as well with regard to its multiplex structure as to its timing. If not doing so, when the emergency warning begins, the DAB receivers inside the tunnel would lose the signal, and would be required to perform a time consuming re-synchronisation.

The DABRF and the underlying techniques are covered by several patents, among others EP2846485B1 and EP2854314B1.

In particular, since 2015, the DABRF replaces the established DAB test receiver, UEB400-DXP, within the DAB-XPlorer family of DAB analysing tools. In this application, the DABRF offers a great potential for future extensions of the collection of powerful analysis tools of the DAB-XPlorer suite.

DAB-XPlorer
Description

For historical reasons the term DAB-XPlorer stands for two things a) the DAB-XPlorer software suite providing a collection of software tools to analyze DAB data streams and b) for the DABXPlorer hardware providing an ETI/RDI-to-USB interface. Originally, both the software and the hardware have been one product, the DAB-XPlorer, developed and manufactured by Ingenieurbüro Mulka. In the course of the evolution of this product, the software was modified and extended to support additional hardware products from other vendors. At this time the DAB-XPlorer software suite supports and can be delivered with:

  • ETI/RDI-to-USB converter DAB-XPlorer
  • DAB test receiver and modulator DABRF and DABRF-X4
  • all Ethernet interfaces that can be used to receive EDI data streams
  • DAB test receiver UEB400-DXP provided under the trademark VAD
  • products of VDL’s DABSTOR family
